DUST was always meant to be going next-gen.
At E3, it was specifically advertised as having plans to move to PS4.
The PS3 can handle more of what DUST was always meant to be than it's currently doing, but it can't handle EVERYTHING that DUST was meant to be.
The PS3 version is long overdue a lot of content that it's entirely fair for us to have been expecting on the console for quite some time, and it's perfectly fair to complain that the reasonable expectations we had aren't being met on a platform they should have been fine to work a lot better with than they have done.
There are things which many players want and expect from the future of DUST which simply aren't ever going to happen on PS3, but the game wasn't meant to be staying on PS3 anyway.
CCP's failure wasn't the decision to move on, or even the decision to move to PC instead of PS4. Their failure was that they didn't tell us as soon as they started down this path.
We didn't need to know what Project Legion was before Fanfest. We didn't need to know that they're building a new game to supercede DUST before Fanfest. We DID need to know that their planned future vision was for PC now, and not moving to PS4 in the foreseeable future. And we needed to know that BEFORE the major Aurum sales in DUST, which were trading in part on promises that had already been turned into lies before those sales. |

Orenji Jiji wrote:Could we say this is the worst UE3 execution that PS3 has seen? It is. You might want to look up the engine that Aliens: Colonial Marines was built on. Also, X-Men: Destiny and UT3 are pretty well up there with DUST for failure to deliver on PS3. If you widen the scope a little, Too Human was on XBox 360 and made in UE3, and is also an impressive example of poor execution.
Quote:Also things like:
* User market * Joined economy with EVE * Planned Planetary Conquest (you know, without brain dead mechanic) * PvE with small maps and AI drones shown in a trailer a YEAR AGO * Racial Content
Could not be implemented because PS3 is too weak. Honestly it would not be able to use market hosted on Eve servers ever. Deal with it. I'm sorry, but no. Player market, improvements to Planetary Conquest (which are confirmed to be in the works still, btw) and PvE are all still very much within the limits of the PS3's ability to deliver. There legitimately IS content that's beyond the platform's capablities, but most of what people are now asking for ISN'T outside of the PS3's reach. It's perfectly fair to BACK OFF on developing new content, but a complete halt because you're working on a half-hearted "waiting for green light" project that's meant to be taking over the reins? Yeah, not such a good idea.
Quote:Because the fact that some of these things never even started being developed is of course hardware fault. PC Master Race says so! CCP says so! CPM1 candidates say so. Must be true!
To finish it up: BUY MORE AURUM AND HAVE A NICE DAY!
Yeah, you got me. Well played. |

low genius wrote:failure in concept. So you're saying Legion can't succeed, since it's the exact same concept as DUST?
Good to know. |
